How multihead weighing can help your business

Multihead weighing can help you in six main ways. Click on the topic that interests you most, or scroll down to browse through all the choices.

Filling bags

The range of bags which can be filled using multihead weighers is immense. At one end of the scale are large catering packs of many kilogrammes. At the other are small bags of crisps which can be handled at high speed and efficiency by, for example, the Ishida iTPS: the world’s only fully integrated weigher-bagmaker combination.

Mix-weighing

Products containing up to eight components can be mixed on a multihead weigher with the highest accuracy and at surprising speeds. Whether all the components are of equal value, or whether one or more are of much higher value, the right weigher and its software can be set up to maximize your return on investment.

Placing into trays

A well-engineered distribution system enables you to combine the speed and accuracy of multihead weighing with precise, splash-free delivery of product into trays. Ishida is a world expert at producing elegant solutions for, for example, ensuring that all the components of a complex ready meal are positioned for optimum tray appearance and maximum seal integrity.

Handling sticky products

The array of available solutions for handling sticky products has never been greater. For clinging salad leaves, for example, Ishida’s PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) has brought new power and flexibility to weigher vibratory systems. For fresh meat, the new Ishida Screw Feeder weigher, with its gentle but powerful screw propulsion offers one avenue, while the Fresh Food Weigher, with its open, operator supervised belt feeders offers another: the choice can be made to suit the precise economic circumstances of your operation.

Fragile and awkward products

Ishida has extensive experience of maximising the speed at which fragile products can be weighed while engineering the weigher geometry and ‘softening’ the impact points so as to minimise breakage. We have also successfully handled long or bulky products (e.g. saltsticks, large poultry pieces) as well as wet and oily ones (e.g. casseroles, seafood salads).

Serving more than one packing line with a single weigher

Sometimes economics or limited space demands that a weigher’s output be switchable between, for example, a bagmaker and a tray distribution system. This is a familiar situation to Ishida engineers. In many cases we have installed mobile weighers, which can relocate completely from one line to another.
