Exhibition Showcases Ishida Packing Line Solutions

26/02/2010

Weighing and packing solutions for a variety of products including snacks, fresh and frozen produce and ready meals, plus the latest developments in quality control systems, will form the focus of Ishida Europe’s stand at Total Processing & Packaging 2010.

Highlights include an Astro snack food packing system, a high speed tray packing line, the latest multihead weigher solutions for fresh meat, an entry level X-ray inspection system, and Ishida’s recently launched IDCS data capture system for its checkweighers.

The integrated Astro 202 bagmaker and high-performance multihead weigher CCW-RS-214 offers an economic solution for snack food manufacturers, with the flexibility to weigh and pack pillow, gusseted and block bottom bags with minimum change parts. The Astro 202 features servo-motors and software controlled variable seal time, jaw temperature and pressure that allow the handling of many film types and offer improved seal integrity to provide consistent pack quality. Servo driven and vacuum assisted pull down belts ensure accurate and consistent bag lengths to maximise film use and optimise pack presentation.

The Astro 202 also allows easy and rapid changeovers between bag types and film, reducing both product and film waste, and requiring minimal downtime.

The weighing and tray sealing system on display combines Ishida’s high speed RS-216 multihead weigher with the company’s award winning QX-1100 tray sealer to enable fresh and frozen products and ready meals to be handled with excellent line efficiency. Output is up to 120 trays per minute, with low manpower and maintenance requirements and close to zero downtime levels.

The RS-216 delivers products in accurate and consistent portions to a sophisticated tray tracking and filling system, depositing the portions neatly into the trays. The filled trays are then sealed by the QX-1100 tray sealer, which features double-track configuration and the use of servo motors to ensure maximum efficiency.

The Ishida CCW-R-214W-S/30-WP-SF Screw Feeder Weigher with 3 litre hoppers allows the fully automatic and accurate weighing of fresh sticky products, such as meat, poultry, fish and seafood, at up to 60 wpm.

The Ishida Screw Feeder design utilises the familiar circular multihead weigher layout but incorporates unique rotating corkscrews to replace the traditionally used radial feed troughs. The use of these screws provides a powerful, controlled and fully automatic product feed to the pool and weigh hoppers.

Also demonstrated, the Ishida CCW-NZ-106 Fresh Food Weigher provides another solution to the handling and weighing of sticky products, featuring a linear multihead design, fed by belts from an infeed table, with an operator able to adjust the flow of product so that each pool hopper receives a roughly equal amount.

As well as its DACS-W-012 checkweigher, Ishida will also be demonstrating its recently launched Data Capture System (IDCS). This user-friendly, secure software programme links up to 100 Ishida checkweighers in order to capture data from every single pack that passes. An extensive range of reporting options is available to enable production managers to identify cost saving opportunities, prompting action to be taken that can have an immediate impact on a processor’s or packer’s bottom line.

The Ishida IX-EA-2161 is an entry-level version of the company’s market leading X-ray inspection system, offering food manufacturers an affordable solution for maximum quality control in their packing operations. Operating at belt speeds of up to 60 metres per minute, the IX-EA 2161 is able to easily pick up a 0.7mm diameter metal piece, while other contaminants that can be detected include glass, stone, rubber and plastic, offering higher detection levels than standard metal detectors.
