Ishida Multihead weigher brings frozen meat packing benefits

07/01/1999

An Ishida CCW-NZ-214W-S/70-WP multihead weigher installed at leading frozen meat processors W & J Parker (Wholesale) Ltd has led to increased packaging speeds and efficiencies across the Company’s extensive product range.

Family owned and run W & J Parker supplies a wide selection of meat products, including chops, ribs and steaks, plus a growing range of added value lines, such as stir fry meals, to leading retailers. Products are packed in both bags and trays in various sizes from 300g to I kg.

Prior to the installation of the Ishida weighing machine, a semi-automatic, hand fed weigher was used but this proved to be too slow, with unacceptable levels of product giveaway.

By contrast, the Ishida CCW-NZ-214 weighing machine is nearly three times faster and giveaway has been dramatically reduced to less than 1%. The S/70 version of the Ishida weigher features large 7 litre size weigh hoppers, making the weighing machine ideal to handle bulky items such as chops and ribs. The WP waterproof version of the Ishida weighing machine was designed for applications where hygiene is of paramount importance and features durable stainless steel construction with hermetically sealed components for easy cleaning.

The Ishida weigher at W & J Parker operates in conjunction with both a Sandiacre Bagmaker and Adpak tray sealer. Bagged product is given a final weight check on an Ishida DACS.W.030 checkweigher.

“We are delighted with both the Ishida multihead weigher and checkweigher,” comments W & J Parker’s Factory Manager Ian Molyneux. “As well as the increases in speed and efficiency, the weighing machines have proved very reliable. Ishida personnel were also very knowledgeable about our application and worked with our other equipment suppliers to ensure a smooth and successful installation.

“There is no doubt in my mind that Ishida offered the best weighing equipment. Although more expensive than competitor weighing machines, the fast payback through increased throughput and minimum downtime more than justifies the investment.”
