2017 Milestone Year

In our last blog, we shared with you our global successes – awards for both products and people which demonstrated our unwavering commitment to helping customers with their future needs. But in 2017 we had reason to reflect a little further back in time – all the way to 1997 to be exact.

Before 1997 Ishida customers in Europe were served directly from Japan where our business began. We then decided to take a forward-thinking step to reduce lead times without compromising on quality, and established a dedicated assembly plant in the industrial heartland of the UK: Birmingham. With a traditional focus on quality manufacturing, the new Midlands facility gave us a central UK location as well as excellent links to mainland Europe, making it the ideal location for our first site geared entirely to the needs of the EMEA market.

What began as a 40-person operation, assembling multihead weighers and checkweighers, has now grown to a team exceeding 500 people. And as the team has grown, so too has the range of products we are able to not only assemble, but design and develop too – today, our graders, traysealers and the AirScan are all created in the UK.

For the last 20 years, our Birmingham team has participated in the invaluable exchange programme too, enabling them to travel to Japan to visit the factories where the components originate, as well as sharing ideas and best practice with international colleagues and customers alike.

This milestone anniversary coincided with the industry’s largest exhibition, Interpack, in early May. Ishida offered all our customers the opportunity to view the latest developments, including our newest advances in remote line monitoring, Sentinel™, our new and best-in-class bagmaker system the Inspira and our new range of checkweigher products, as well as a preview of our new branding that visualises the Ishida corporate philosophy of Harmony.

November saw the senior management team strengthened with the appointment of Robert Kaluza as General Manager, to support our customers in Central and Eastern Europe. As we continue to invest in our facilities and people worldwide, next year we look forward to celebrating our 125 year anniversary, opening our new doors to our customers and continuing to build on the strong foundation of trust and harmony we share with all our partners.
